Virtual paint out preliminary sketch "Taking the Sheep Out to Pasture, Romania"

I’ve attempted to add work to the virtual paint out project since December, to no avail. Last night I did a preliminary sketch of the painting that I wish to submit. I’m going to go ahead and submit this anyway because I don’t think I will get the painting done this month.

I’ve been very busy, and it looks like my schedule will not slow down anytime soon. This sketch does not compare with the work that is being submitted. The project is the brain child of Bill Guffey.

Kildare & Len’s from Windsor Regional Hospital, Met Campus Cafeteria, originally uploaded by photographerpainterprintmaker.

Went with Sheldon on Tuesday for his check up at Windsor Western Hospital. It looked like we were in for a long wait. This time we went to the cafeteria for tea, and pastry. YUM! I brought my new sketch kit with me. This house on the corner of Kildare and Len’s has always been a favorite of mine. I just might go back and sketch some more houses from the cafeteria. Especially since it’s only a block from home. I’ve had just a wonderful January 2011, and this is the first sketch of February 2011, in my Christmas present to me, my first Watercolour Moleskine! I love it! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds in store.

Keep your pencils sharp, your watercolours wet, and close at hand!

Ascomycetes – Morchella – The true Morels vs the False Morels

If I told you where these were,  I would have to shoot you! They are a spring mushroom, and highly prized. We also encountered some false Morels, which are poison. I’m grateful that I have my Dad’s mushroom books to help me identify them.

Morchella The True Morels

Gyromitra, Helvella, and Related Species of the False Morels

Gyromitra, Helvella, and Related Species of the False Morels

Gromitra Brunnea Underwood

Cap large 5-15 cm broad, often saddled-shaped, lobed, often veined, chocolate-brown, white beneath, Flesh brittle, white. Stalk large, 16 – 15 cm long, 2-5 cm broad, Slightly larger base, somewhat ribbed to smooth, white, nearly hollow to cottony inside. Spores 28 – 30 x 12 – 15 elliptical, finely warted.
Single or several under hardwood forests in eastern North America in early Sp. Causes severe illness from high levels of MMH. (Group V toxins). G. fastigiata (Krombh.) Rehm (394B) is similar but looks as though it might be a darker brown formm of southern Helvella gigas; however it also contains Group V toxins. It is occasionally found at low elevation in western North America.

This mushroom is identical to the one depicted in 394B

I’ve been pretty busy of late, and have not been able to stop and breathe. I really liked this challenge, and am looking forward to what emotions this photo elicits. Happy to be a part of this great challenge.

This photo was taken at the Youmacon2009 convention held in Dearborn, Mi. My nephew posted on facebook that he wanted to go, and I jumped at the opportunity to take him. I knew it would be a great photo op, and a fun day with him. I was not disappointed.

Sunday Stills, the next challenge: Moods and Emotions

This will take a bit of explaining. This challenge is for you to get a shot that enables a response in the person who views your pic not one that is your personal emotion. For example if I see a pic of a tranqual stream or a sunrise I feel mellow, If I see a pic of doggie smiles or a horse doing his rolling in dirt thing It makes me smile, you get the idea. So lets see just how much talent we have out there and have some fun with this one, I’m already writing ideas in my notebook for pics and can’t wait to get started.
