Doodle in Stormy Weather

No it’s not Sunday, and while this is a photo, the subject is not photography.

So, we had a thunderstorm today. I usually shut down all electrical equipment when this happens. Then face the silence. Well all except for the booming.

I played with the puppy a bit. Mainly so show him that thunder storms didn’t bother me, and that they should not bother him. So far so good, he’s not afraid. Which is amazing as for some reason all of my dogs in the past have tried to go through windows to get away from storms. But, then Pugsley is no ordinary dog.

Anyway, in the process of unplugging stuff I happened upon this old pad of paper, which gave me the inspiration to draw something. I hate drawing ellipses. Heck, I can’t even say ellipses! So attacking something like a pop can to me is a real challenge. I didn’t do such a great job on this can lid, but I’m going to keep practicing till I can not only draw and ellipse but pronounce it too!

I think what I really enjoyed about this little drawing was the shadow cast by multiple light sources.

Goodnight Dear.

When my mother passed, my father came to live with my husband and I. I continued working until it became apparent that he needed full time care. I left my job to care for him full time. When life for us stabilized, I took the opportunity to pursue an arts degree.

In my second year at the University of Windsor I began my studies in photography. Photography was my passion, and my father’s as well. On one assignment I photographed a day in my father’s life. These photos turned into a book, “Don’t Grow Old, the advice of John C. Clarke.” The final photo I took that day, was of my father’s hands as he sat on the side of his bed, and said goodnight.
Goodnight dear.

Here is a link to the online version of the book, Don’t Grow Old.

Sunday Stills challenge for the week, hands.

Connected to Facebook

Well, today I attempted to connect my blog to Facebook. Although, at this point I’m not sure I like the application, and may at any time decide to do away with it. All I want to see is MY blog on my home Facebook page. Does this happen? NO! Instead I see a blog I bookmarked, with my blog below it. While I appreciate his blog, I don’t want to advertise him and whoever else I might want to follow on my page. So we shall see if I can fix this to show only my blog. It’s a good idea, but so far they are not giving me enough power over the content.

I also put a widget on my blog page that is supposed to direct traffic to my Facebook photo’s. Instead it just directs people to my Facebook. Another fail on Facebook’s part. Well, may not be an actual error on Facebook’s part, but on the part of the person who made the application. Must be sure to give credit where it is due.  <(~.^)>

4-5ths, originally uploaded by photographerpainterprintmaker.

Here is another for Sunday Stills. My husband and I belong to the Essex – Kent Cage Bird Society. We raise cockatiels, and English Budgerigar’s. This photo was cropped in the Gimp. So as not to upset the parents, I used a flashlight to light the chicks. The photo was taken with my point and shoot Canon. Being responsible breeders, and due to the bad economy last year, we chose only to raise one nest of chicks. We have over thirty birds in our aviary. The hen is a rare variety. We were very pleased with this mating, and took home many trophies from this single nest. I will try to post photo’s of all the trophies, these tiny fuzzy babies brought home from the Eastern Canadian Classic Show of 2009. I will also post photo’s of them as they look now. We’ve kept these chicks to add to our breeding program.

I’ve been pretty busy of late, and have not been able to stop and breathe. I really liked this challenge, and am looking forward to what emotions this photo elicits. Happy to be a part of this great challenge.

This photo was taken at the Youmacon2009 convention held in Dearborn, Mi. My nephew posted on facebook that he wanted to go, and I jumped at the opportunity to take him. I knew it would be a great photo op, and a fun day with him. I was not disappointed.

Sunday Stills, the next challenge: Moods and Emotions

This will take a bit of explaining. This challenge is for you to get a shot that enables a response in the person who views your pic not one that is your personal emotion. For example if I see a pic of a tranqual stream or a sunrise I feel mellow, If I see a pic of doggie smiles or a horse doing his rolling in dirt thing It makes me smile, you get the idea. So lets see just how much talent we have out there and have some fun with this one, I’m already writing ideas in my notebook for pics and can’t wait to get started.

pump house & old wheels

I wracked my brain trying to decide what to do for this challenge. I decided to use technology to mess with my image. Also, my image is of old technology, and taken with my old point and shoot. It is the pump house located at our family vacation property. I think I really could have pushed the envelope a lot more on this photo, and I may post a further edited one later. I used The Gimp. It is a wonderful FREE program that is just as good as the mega expensive Photoshop program, and even better in my eyes since I don’t have to shell out any cash for it. If you can’t afford Photoshop check out the gimp.

This fall was extremely warm, and my plants decided it was spring. Not only did my Maple tree bud, but my clematis decided to give me one last beautiful bloom. I photographed it on an overcast day, and a sunny day. Today, I post two versions of one of the overcast photo’s. I hope you like them. If I get the opportunity I will post a version of the sunny day one as well.
